Qualifying for major sporting games such as the biannual Southeast Asian Games and the Olympic Games is a dream come true for any elite athlete. However, the road to that destination comes at a price. Besides having extraordinary talent, dedication and hard work, there are plenty of costs involved to reach the top. Many tend to overlook the years of training expenses, coaching fees, travel and other unseen costs which fall on athletes and their governing bodies to cover. While the top few athletes can have their expenses covered through government funding, commercial endorsements or cash payouts from international competitions, the majority of athletes have to fend for themselves while keeping up with the rising cost of living here in Singapore.
Through this fundraiser, we aim to offer an insider’s look into the lives of local athletes who are fighting to make it to the top in their respective sports. Through raising awareness about the various aspects that contribute to one’s ability to perform at an elite level, we hope that you can embark on this journey to help inspire Singapore’s next generation of sporting legends who will proudly fly our flag internationally.
